PostSubject: Death. Life. Comfort.   Thu Feb 18, 2016 4:21 pm

I saw death last night.
I saw it in the twisting
Writhing
Trembling body of a cat.
I saw it in his glazed eyes.
Heard it in the rattling lungs
As he fought to breathe.
I saw it as he thrashed about.
Then I heard it in the final, anguished squall
Heard it in the final gasping breath
Saw it finished in the final jerk of the body.
I saw death last night.

I saw life this morning.
I saw it in the wobbling
Weak legged
Unsteady body of a newborn calf.
Saw it in the first faltering steps.
I saw it in the clear, shining eyes
I head it in the strong, clear lungs
As he drew each fresh, new breath.
I saw it in the wonder with which
He explored his new surroundings.
I heard it in the loud bawl of protest
As his little legs gave out and he fell.
I saw it as he struggled back up
And as he straightened his legs under him.
I saw and heard life this morning.

I felt comfort this morning.
A new hope.
I felt it in the gentle breeze.
I felt in the warmth of the sun.
It crept into my heart,
Nurturing
Soothing
Easing the pain of loss.
I felt comfort this morning
Because I felt You this morning.

I wrote this after one of our cats died the other night. Hope it makes sense.

Very descriptive writing. A bittersweet picture painted in words. Me likey. Just so ya know, as long as your poems make sense to you, then they make sense. No doubt. It did make sense to me, though. Peace

I don't believe in coincidences.
Uncanny? No..?
My wife retold this story to me briefly this morning as related to her by her Mom in Kentucky.
Death in the family? Nope...Life in the family!
