PostSubject: When Will I Turn into a Swan?   Wed Sep 21, 2011 4:06 am

Junior High is such a tough time, especially if you are tall, skinny, freckled and ....well, flat! I longed to awake some morning to find that overnight I had magically turned into that swan of which the fables spoke. “All the models are skinny,” my dad would say, and” Freckles are cute“, my mom would offer, but there was Sandra Dee staring at me from the cover of my magazine and I looked more like Minnie Mouse than any of the Mouseketeers...

One day my best friend and I went shopping and I bought a new dress and when I modeled it for my friend’s mom, she whispered conspiratorially in my ear “Honey, your clothes will fit better if you buy a padded bra”. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that I had on ...a padded bra.

But now, as I look back, I don’t see the ugly duckling that I was sure I was then. I see a normal red blooded American kid, a tomboy sometimes who played softball with her brothers and who had lots of friends who looked quite a bit like me....come to think of it...

Today, I believe that the things I went through as a child and as a teen made me a more loving and compassionate person. I find myself drawn as if by a magnet to the underdog, I root for the losing teams and I may tear up at a supermarket opening, but I like who I was and who I am and who I will be....

for God is not finished

with me yet....

That was so moving. You really have a special gift for empathizing with children. I used to be the tall skinny, freckled and...well flat, kid. I still have the freckles, but things have changed. Thank you for that. Your work is full of little gems worth tucking away, reading later, and sharing with others.

How does any of this have anything to do with food?
You left out the food!
You're the one who had to go and mention "cheese cake" now I'm stuck there thank you very much.
Oh...sorry got carried away,
I digress...
How much more swan could you possibly be?
You are definitely a Blessed swan to me !
God Bless you.
