Accepting Jesus

God’s most trusted cosmic servant alters his flight path to descend on a “can anything good come from Nazareth” town. Angel Gabriel, the veteran, sent to a virgin with God’s life disturbing greetings.
She, like property, is pledged in a marriage: not belonging to her family anymore and not yet to a husband either. But her child, he will be great and rule over Israel forever in an endless kingdom. By her own admission she is a humble servant girl. ”You are highly favoured,” he announces. She daydreams of being with Joseph. “The Lord be with you,” he proclaims.
Now she is worried, her troubles have just started. The ponderings in her heart have begun. “Do not be afraid” he encourages; “God is going to do you a big favour.” And the angel continues, “God needs to get down to earth and he wants to use your body to produce the Son of God.” Gabriel goes on and tries to assure her that God’s power overcomes social stigmas; it over rules the written laws and overshadows biological facts. Yet her female intuition kicks in; she senses there is something wrong with a greeting of this kind. She unexpectedly realizes that by her perceived sinfulness she will conceive the Holy one.
Heart racing, stomach nauseous she tries to voice her concern, “I am a virgin, and I really need to stay that way right now for my life to work out. “Oh,” she sighs, looking up at his angelic form, “You probably don’t understand.”
Gabriel quietly answers her. “Go now and visit your relative Elizabeth, she is joyfully pregnant and is expecting you. But understand this, no word from God will ever fail.”
“I too am the Lords servant,” Mary answered; “I accept Jesus in my life.”
