PostSubject: Dear God   Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:51 pm

I just recently discovered how rewarding it was to write letters to God. You can read and reread them and see if you are praying the right type of prayers. Here is one I wrote.
Dear God,
As you already know, I have been dealing with some issues lately. One of my problems is that my faith is lagging but only in certain areas. I know that you will forgive me of my sins, but somehow don’t seem to trust you enough to tithe as I should. On the one hand, I know in my heart of hearts that you will take care of everything, on the other hand, I can’t seem to let go of the money in case something happens and I may need it. Somehow, that seems a little unbalanced to me. So could you see your way clear to help me with my faith?
Then there is my prayer life. I used to at least pray every night as I went to bed if nothing else. Now it seems I go to sleep before I can even ask for forgiveness of my sins let alone tell you how much I appreciate all the wonderful things you have given me. So thanks and please forgive me for being so lax. It seems like during the day every time I bow my head to pray, somebody comes along and thinks there is something wrong and they always ask “Are you okay?” I try to tell them I am more than ok and use the opportunity to try to witness, but that is sometimes difficult.
Which brings me to my life as a witness for you. I don’t think I’m doing a very good job in that area and I really need your help there. Show me how and make sure I use the opportunity when it comes along. Sometimes I don’t use my heart instead of my head. I could write volumes on missed chances and not taking the time, but I know that is in the past and I want to start over and do a better job so could you help me with this? I really don’t want any recognition or glory for it, I want that to be all yours. It would only bring me a whole set of responsibilities I probably couldn’t handle anyway.
Also, I don’t do enough Bible study. I don’t do much at all. Let me be honest and just confess I haven’t been doing any. I wont say I used to read it every day, but I sure used to do more than I do now. I can’t even say its because I am pressed for time. I just forget about stuff like that. In fact, that is the biggest fear of my life is that I get to where I forget about you. My memory ain’t what it used to be as you must know. I know I could make time, but I guess what I am saying here is that I am not putting you first in my life. I know I need to do that, but how?
I feel like I am just drifting along waiting for something to happen. I have really bad habits including eating, sleeping, and all the ones I have already mentioned. I think I mentioned my life is a mess. It seems like I can’t hear you when you speak, if you speak to me anymore. What do I do there? Am I deaf? Or do I just choose not to hear. Maybe I am getting too complacent. At any rate, I’m not getting the message here.
I could tell you a lot more and probably should, but you probably have a lot more important people and sick folks and those who are in a dire need to listen to so I will shut up now. I do hope you get this letter though and maybe give it a little attention when you get the time. I will be here waiting for you knowing that all things are possible though your son Jesus Chirst (I need that faith).
Your loving servant,

I like your idea of writing our prayers out. It helps keep the mind from drifting. I think I'm going to try it! Your prayer made me sad, yet it is a prayer we have all prayed at one time or another. We get so busy condemning ourselves and forget that He doesn't condemn us. That was all taken care of on the Cross. It wastes the time we could be spending thanking Him that he brought us to say a prayer (even short ones), or that we made it to church in the first place when we failed to place the appropriate amount of tithe in the bucket, or that we found salvation at all. Nice work. Thank you for sharing one of your most intimate moments with the Lord. I loved it.

God Knows that we as humans are not perfect. That is why he sent us Jesus. My pastor this Sunday said that you should not be afraid or embarrassed to pray for things you really want to happen in your life. He said a lot of people pray for the health and well being of others and neglect themselves in their prayers. I personally have never prayed for myself. I have prayed for the safety of my family so I guess that is for myself. I think I will take a moment and Pray for myself this evening.
God Bless

Yes thank you for sharing such intimacy with us. Letters to God is an insightful practice to have. I don't recall writing one yet, but i do write down in a journal some of the wonderful revelations God gives me by His Spirit, so that i can go back to them during the seasons of my life. Since God always hears and answers the prayers of a humble, sincere, and repentant heart, writing letters provides an opportunity to go back and read what was prayed about and then compare to where we are in our life walk (especially spiritually), so that we can see what God did with our prayer.

Thank you for your feedback. I hope it helps someone else as much as it helps me.
